Dr. DeSimone is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine and Consultant in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Mayo Clinic. He graduated with an MD degree from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine. He completed both internal medicine residency and infectious diseases fellowship training at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
His clinical interests include cardiovascular infectious diseases—specifically infective endocarditis, CIED infections, and vascular graft infections. He served as the writing group chair and senior author on the American Heart Association’s scientific statement on the management of people who inject drugs with infective endocarditis. He also served as writing group member on the 2021 AHA’s scientific statement on the prevention of viridans group streptococcal infective endocarditis.
