Dr. Whitford is a general internist, bioethicist and hospice/palliative medicine physician and former chair of the Division of Hospital Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic. He is a member of the hospital practice subcommittee and medical director accreditation for Mayo Clinic Rochester. He has served with the ethics consult service for over 18 years and served as the physician leader for 13 years and earned the Healthcare Ethics consultant certification from ASBH. His clinical work is providing inpatient care for hematology and oncology patients, serving with the palliative care consult service and caring for hospice patients as the medical director for Mayo Clinic Hospice. My current research projects are studying the impact of bias and discrimination on physicians and evaluating the impact of music therapy on caregivers of hospice patients.
