Lori A. Erickson, MD

Dr. Lori Erickson is a surgical pathologist specializing in skin and endocrine pathology and is Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology with a joint appointment in Dermatology at Mayo Clinic. In addition to her role as Deputy Editor of Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Innovations, Quality & Outcomes, Dr. Erickson is Editor-in-Chief of Human Pathology, Senior Associate Editor of Endocrine Pathology, and Associate Editor of Mayo Clinic Proceedings.

Dr. Erickson graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and completed NASA’s Space Life Sciences Training Program at the Kennedy Space Center. She received her MD from the University of South Dakota. She completed residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Mayo Clinic followed by a fellowship in Dermatopathology at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Erickson was appointed to the Mayo Clinic faculty in 2002.

Dr. Erickson has been engaged in clinical research and teaching in endocrine pathology and dermatopathology for more than 20 years, authoring or co-authoring more than 200 manuscripts and several textbooks. She has served on the Melanoma Programme of the World Health Organization and is an author of the World Health Organization Tumours of Endocrine and Neuroendocrine Organs. She received the Mayo Fellows Association Teacher of the Year Award. Dr. Erickson is involved in clinical cancer trials as the Pathology Research Base Chair and Director of Biospecimen Resource of the North Central Cancer Treatment Group, a member of the Pathology Committee, and the Pathology Cadre Leader of the Experimental Therapeutics and Rare Tumors Committee of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, funded by the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Erickson also served on the Steering Committee of the Group Banking Committee with the National Cancer Institute to oversee the management and use of biospecimen banks. She is a Pathology Member of the International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting serving on the Parathyroid Carcinoma and the Adrenal Cortical Carcinoma Data Set Study Groups. In addition to these positions, Dr. Erickson serves on the editorial boards of several journals.
